The Alchemist opens in Newcastle tonight with a warm welcome and fiery cocktails on the menu as our sneak peak inside the bar shows.
The Alchemist will open its doors in Newcastle tonight with a touch of finesse, flair and no doubt a touch of fire.
The new kid on the block in Eldon Square’s dining quarter is aiming to make quite an impression when it opens its doors to the public for the first time on Wednesday.
While it has branches in London and Birmingham, most of its eight venues to date are in the north: in Leeds and Manchester.
Newcastle was seen as the natural next step for its expanding portfolio and its inventive menu is set to impress those keen to try something different.
The trademark look is warm, with an interior featuring lots of amber, copper and reds – or what it describes as “a copper-cased wonderland” – and unique artwork.
And it operates on a first-come, first-served basis so there’s no snaffling a table.
On the menu are some familiar staples such as the fish finger sandwich and fish and chips and its signature dish is chicken in a basket, with fries and red cabbage coleslaw.
Other dishes have a Thai, Indian or Cajun twist while there’s a Japanese Ramen spiced noodle broth and a big American breakfast of waffles, eggs, bacon, maple syrup and butter.
Or how about a vegetarian sharing platter including the likes of nachos and cheese quesadillas, or the great-sounding Mish Mosh breakfast which features broken eggs with the addition of such extras as chorizo sausage and spinach.
All in all it seems there’s something to suit all tastes and that variety extends to that cocktail menu too which is all about capturing the wow factor.
That’s where the flames and smoke come in, and customers are set to gather around the long bar to watch staff rustle up the likes of a Bubblygum – and expect to see those bubbles froth before your eyes – or a Smoky Old Fashioned or Caramelised Rum Punch which will impress with some spectacular flames and smoke.
With everything in place to welcome Wednesday’s first customers, brand business development manager Jenny McPhee said: “We’re looking forward to opening the doors and getting going!”
